Please read this before drawing conclusions from your results or the party comparisons.
This survey is intended as a reflective tool to help users consider their views in relation to a set of commonly cited Australian civic values. It does not provide a scientific, definitive, or objective measure of a person's beliefs, nor does it represent an official or universally agreed definition of "Australian values."
This tool does not attempt to rank individuals as more or less aligned with "Australian values," but rather to illustrate how responses relate to this specific interpretive framework.
Concepts such as freedom, equality, fairness, and respect are inherently subjective and can be understood in different — and sometimes conflicting — ways. This survey reflects one interpretation of these values and how they may be expressed in public life. There is no single authoritative framework for measuring or scoring them.
The 20 statements in this survey are intentionally concise and broadly framed. As a result, they do not capture the full complexity of real-world issues, where values often come into tension — for example, freedom vs safety, or equality of opportunity vs equality of outcome. Responses may therefore reflect agreement with the general wording rather than agreement with any specific interpretation or policy.
Agreeing or disagreeing with a statement does not necessarily indicate support for or opposition to the underlying value itself. It may instead reflect differences in interpretation, emphasis, or preferred approaches to applying that value in practice.
This survey does not require users to make explicit choices between competing values. In practice, many political and social questions involve trade-offs. As a result, this survey may not fully capture how individuals prioritise values when they conflict.
Any scores, comparisons, or summaries generated by this survey are illustrative only. They are based on the specific wording and structure of the statements and do not represent a validated or objective measurement scale.
Where the survey compares results to political parties or groups, these comparisons are based on generalised and interpretive assessments of publicly available positions. They are inherently contestable, not exhaustive, and do not represent official positions of any party. See the Digging Deeper page for further detail on how these comparisons are constructed.
As with all surveys, responses may be influenced by wording, framing, and individual interpretation of terms. Efforts have been made to keep language clear and accessible, but different users may reasonably interpret statements in different ways.
This tool does not use controlled sampling, demographic weighting, or other methods required for statistically representative research. Aggregate results should not be interpreted as reflecting the views of the broader Australian population.
This survey is best used as a starting point for reflection and discussion rather than as a definitive assessment. Users are encouraged to consider how they interpret each value and how they would respond to real-world trade-offs.
By using this survey, you acknowledge that its results are simplified, interpretive, and intended for personal reflection rather than formal analysis.
